From El Cortecito to a boutique manufactory
In 1998, the story begins in El Cortecito, a quaint fishing village on the eastern shores of the Dominican Republic. There, a modest cigar store offered a simple pleasure: savor a cigar while watching the careful assembly of leaves — the living craft of cigar making.
In 2001, the manufactory came to life, founded by Ruth De León and her husband, Sylvio Buchschatz, from Germany. Their vision was clear: to craft cigars of unparalleled quality for a discerning clientele, with a deliberately limited yearly output. De León stands as the epitome of exquisite boutique cigars.
Partnering with the finest handpicked tobaccos — including those from the plantations of Sylvio’s dear friend Leo, a pioneering figure in Dominican tobacco cultivation — every cigar is masterfully blended by Mr. Buchschatz and expertly rolled by seasoned artisans.
Today, De León Cigars can be found in selected cigar stores, luxury hotels, smoking lounges, restaurants and duty-free destinations across multiple countries. Acute attention to construction and harmonious blends makes each cigar a veritable masterpiece.
